HOLY HERETIC DEVOTIONAL- JULY 26, 2016-BE STILL
Compiled by Mercy Junction Justice and Peace Center Pastor Rev. Brian Merritt
“…make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: you should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you.” – I Thess.4:11
I grew up in and amongst the working class and the working poor. Every job that we did had do with working with our hands and breaking our backs. I remember coming home from shifts at Sam’s Club and having my body ache terribly from throwing 50 lb bags of salt and moving 50 gallon drums of oil. Those were hard days of toil.
Yet, as a pastor I long for the use of my hands. Digging in the dirt, fixing a lock or building furniture. There is something beautiful about physical labor and the satisfaction of a job well done. Whether it is the hard push of the wheel from the person in the wheel chair or the sack of concrete over the shoulder our lives are toil. I celebrate that toil today.
Today’s Action: If you are able, do a chore that you have been putting off that might take some toil.
Sharing: When you do hard work how does your body feel? How does your mind feel?
