Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: August 23 – Solitude

Our Lady

HOLY HERETIC DEVOTIONAL- Aug. 23, 2016-SOLITUDE

Compiled by Mercy Junction Justice and Peace Center Pastor Brian Merritt

And He said unto them, “Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure, even so much as to eat. And they departed into a desert place by boat privately. Mark 6:31-32

Jesus here is concerned with leisure, or better an uninterrupted ability to enjoy a meal. How often we eat on the run, driving through to eat in our car and onto our next appointment. Jesus knew this was not a good way to live. We need leisure. We need to eat, know what we eat and enjoy the blessing of food. Leisure is good if it gives us the opportunity set aside distractions and live in this moment. At Mercy Junction we are supposed to stop and eat at the table when we have a meal. That means stopping and being present in community for that time. It is good to be present, even if it is just for one meal.

Today’s Action: During one meal focus on every bite. Think about taste, texture and smells.

Sharing: We would love to hear how easy or hard it was to focus on the food you ate for an entire meal. Please comment on our Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/HolyHereticZine
