HOLY HERETIC DEVOTIONAL- Aug. 28, 2016-SOLITUDE
Compiled by Mercy Junction Justice and Peace Center Director Beth Foster
“It is easy in the world to live after the world’s opinions it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Self-Reliance”
As we close out our summer of focus on “being,” as we end our time of solitude to engage with a broken world, the challenge is maintaining the sweetness of that time in the midst of the crowd.
Today’s Action: Today, when you find yourself with others — in the midst of a crowd, in a meeting, waiting in line — close your eyes, focus your breath and for just a few seconds, go to your place of solitude.
