“No spiritual exercise is as good as that of silence.” — St. Seraphim of Sarov
Often we are lulled and mollified by the sound of our own voices. We think that the only way that we can understand the world we inhabit is to fill it with noise, conversation and activity. Yet, it is true that nothing beats silence as a spiritual restorative. We often find that Christ’s greatest sermons, miracles and deeds of mercy are preceded by silence. Silence is never overvalued when it is used to re-center our spiritual beings.
Today’s inaction: Put cotton in your ears and get under the covers. Do this for at least a half an hour.
