Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: September 28-Acceptance

Compiled by Holy Heretic Benjamin Foster

“Give Love and unconditional acceptance to those you encounter, and notice what happens.” –Wayne Dyer

In John 6, we find some of Jesus’ most famous actions taken to showcase the love and power of God as well provide physical and spiritual nourishment for vastly differing people. Not only do we see Jesus walk on water and feed the five thousand in this chapter, but we also find an important lesson on God’s will in our own lives and accepting others. We find this lesson in the latter half of the chapter and though it may be somewhat subtle it is an absolutely important one in finding our way on our spiritual path.

John 6:37 reads: “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

These are the words of Jesus to his disciples when being asked about the feeding of the multitude. Essentially Jesus tells his followers here that if anyone were to come to them seeking physical or spiritual food that we are to accept them, provide for them the best we are able, and not to send them away. This lesson of acceptance and helping others is just as prevalent in Jesus providing food for the five thousand as it should be in our own spiritual journey.

Today’s Action: Though you probably will never be able to provide nourishment for five thousand, all God asks is that we share of ourselves. Find someone in need and share with them today.
