Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: October 5, 2016 — I was sick, and you cared for me

HOLY HERETIC DEVOTIONAL- Oct. 5, 2016-I WAS SICK, AND YOU CARED FOR ME

Compiled by Holy Heretic Benjamin Foster

“Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction.” — Bob Marley

“To make Marijuana against the law is like saying God made a mistake,” Bob Marley, singer, songwriter, and spiritualist, once said.

Though there are far more healing herbs than the particular one Marley was talking about here, and though there are far more drugs that are lending themselves to the current destruction of, not only our nation, but of our world, than alcohol, this quote boils down a very complex matter into a simple concept. When we get away from that which is of God, and specifically make it illegal and contraband, and put faith in something made by man, things can go haywire rather quickly. It continually baffles me as to why a seeded plant that possesses the ability to heal such a large multitude of illness and disease continues to be suppressed and prohibited, while street drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, along with drugs prescribed in doctors’ offices several times a day, continue to kill our brothers and sisters and seemingly go unstopped and undaunted.

In Genesis 1:29, we find these words on herbs:

“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you shall be for meat.”

It’s in the story of Jesse Stanley that shows us just how that specific herb can be used as meat for the healing of us as individuals, and as a whole, on a national and world wide level. Jesse Stanley grew up in Colorado Springs and has been a devout Christian his entire life, even attending a private evangelical school. Ask anyone who knows Jesse and they’ll tell you he has taken the lessons of Jesus to heart; serving your neighbor, seeking God’s guidance, and changing the world for the better. Today, Jesse follows God’s guidance every day with his family and their cannabis based Christian compassion ministry that Jesse says offers an alternative to manmade medicines. Jesse’s ministry has assisted many different people all over the world in coping with pain and disease and most famously Jesse’s cannabis oil, affectionately named Charlotte’s web, has helped over a hundred families who have children suffering from epilepsy. How has Jesse done all of this? God’s guidance.

“Satan didn’t create this plant. Satan doesn’t create anything. This is God’s plant. And God is moving in the hearts of men and women and children around the world about this plant in ways that I never would’ve imagined five years ago.” Jesse says.

While cannabis, an herb used for thousands of years by a plethora of cultures for healing, communion, and spiritual practices, continues to be illegal and looked down upon, the use of wholly legal substances continues to addict people and slowly destroy lives on physical, mental, and spiritual levels. Cannabis is not the only herb that has a long history of medical use only fairly recently to have been ostracized in the name of modern chemical medicines. Chaga mushrooms, Chaste Berry, and Echinacea have all been used throughout history for their medicinal properties and if used correctly and knowledgably could replace many addictive and dangerous chemical medicines prescribed. Maybe as Christians it is time for us to do as Proverbs 3 tells us and “lean not on our own understanding,” or that of humankind, and embrace the healing herbs God has provided for us.

Today’s Action: Examine your own health and well being and the medicines you take to stay healthy. Do you use as many of God’s natural medicines as you could? Are there replacements you could make in your medical routine that could allow for more natural and spiritual healing?

Today’s Sharing: What natural or spiritual wellness and healing methods do you incorporate into your personal care. We’d love to hear about them on our Facebook page facebook.com/holyhereticzine.
