Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: October 6, 2016 — I was sick, and you cared for me

Compiled by Mercy Junction Council Member Maddie Nix

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” — Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

Hospility is very important for many reasons. At the Mercy Junction Justice and Peace Center, we have people who come that don’t have any place to go to and they look forward to coming each day that the center is open. Some look forward to my soup and look forward to the food and snacks. We always try and have interesting food at the center and try and keep the food Vegan where no being has died and suffered for our food. Tuesday was the Feast of St. Francis and we had prayers and blessings for the animals. The center is a sanctuary for all beings, both human and animal. All are welcome. People who have been turned away at other places are free to come and take part in our hospility and fellowship.

Today’s Action: Get out a pad of paper and pen. Make a list of the five things you care about most. Don’t think too much about it. This isn’t the list of the five things you’re “supposed” to care about the most. This is what your heart says when you’re asked, “What do you care about most?”

Today’s Sharing: What does your list look like? We’d love to see it. Share it on our Facebook page at facebook.com/holyhereticzine.

** Don’t forget your gratitude journal at the back of your print edition of Holy Heretic!
