Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: October 16, 2016 — I was sick, and you cared for me

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Even when the constitution calls on our elected officials to promote the general Welfare for all of us, we continue with a broken, privatized healthcare system that only promotes the general Welfare of the very wealthy.

It is again the interests of the 1 percent that are seen to while the “radical harvest” that could be available to all of us is hoarded. Health care is a human right. It is time that we demand that right be upheld in the United States as it is the rest of the industrial world.

Today’s Action: Think about how your life would be different if health care were a human right in the United States and everyone was guaranteed access to medicine, doctors and hospitals when needed. Would you remain with your employer? What could you do differently without having to pay premiums and co-pays? Are there medical procedures, wellness visits or other needs you would be able to address that you aren’t now?
