Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: October 30, 2016 — I was sick, and you cared for me

Compiled by Mercy Junction Justice and Peace Center Director Beth Foster

“When we talk about the healthcare crisis in America we’ve got to also be talking about the dental crisis and how to address it.” — Bernie Sanders

It’s so often a “joke,” the person without teeth, the stereotypical uneducated, poor person with dental problems. The reality is much different. The reality is that people are suffering, real people, not stereotypes, for lack of dental care.  I’ve know several people who have become physically ill, and one who has died, from dental infections that went untreated because of inability to afford dental care. When we talk about the healthcare crisis, we do have to talk about the dental crisis, but we also have to stop making a joke out of the suffering of the poor.

Today’s Action: Take extra good care of your teeth today. Floss and brush extra good. Now smile at yourself.

Today’s Sharing: How did it feel to give some extra care to your teeth today? Share your stories on our Facebook page at facebook.com/holyhereticzine
