Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: November 22, 2016 — I was in Prison and You Visited Me

Compiled by Mercy Junction Pastor Brian Merritt

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
    because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
    to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
    and release to the prisoners

Good news is something that we all need. Yet, it is something that is essential for the oppressed, brokenhearted, captives and prisoners. We live in a society that celebrates winners and has a disdain for the imperfect. This is not the view of the almighty. The one who created all things sees all with no favoritism. This is why there should be no sanctimony in looking at those who are oppressed or have found themselves convicts. We are called to be the bearers of good news to all regardless of station or conviction.

Today’s Action: Say a simple prayer for the people in your local jail or prison. Name the prison by name. If you don’t know it’s name look it up online before your prayer.

Sharing: We would love to hear how prison has impacted either your family or community.
