Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: November 26, 2016 — I was in Prison and You Visited Me

HOLY HERETIC DEVOTIONAL-Nov. 26, 2016-I WAS IN PRISON AND YOU VISITED ME

Compiled by Holy Heretic Connie Foster

Show me a prison, show me a jail

Show me a pris’ner who

face has grown pale

And I’ll show you a young man

with many reasons why

There but by fortune go you and I.

— Phil Ochs

When “There but by Fortune” was written this young folk singer was struggling with depression, which later resulted in his suicide. There are so many of all ages crying out like this young artist did for acceptance and approval. Why do we judge and why do we not reach out to our brothers and sisters just as someone reached out to us? We have all been in that dark spot, some more than others. In this life and on this earth, in the end, all we can do is be there for each other. “There but for fortune go you and I.”

Today’s Action: Reach out today to someone you know is struggling. The holidays for some are the hardest to get through for different reasons. This may be the season we could help that lost soul find their way.

Today’s Sharing: We would love to hear how you have taken that action and helped someone in their darkest hour and how you have been helped. Share your stories on our Facebook page at facebook.com/holyhereticzine
