Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: December 7, 2016 — There Was No Room for Them In The Inn

Compiled by Holy Heretic Benjamin Foster

“Each one of them is Jesus in disguise.” –Mother Teresa

We see them everywhere, we talk to them every day, yet there are many times we don’t know and nothing is said. The homeless epidemic in America is a stifling and a drastically unrealized and down played. With the holiday season coming up many of us will spend our days celebrating the life of one homeless man, while the lives of many continue, uncelebrated, fearfully, and in constant unease, in the streets of our nation and world. The words of Mother Teresa come to mind, “Each one of them is Jesus in disguise.”

Let us not forget that not only Jesus himself, but a multitude of disciples, followers, leaders, prophets, and apostles, all lived lives of homelessness. As our holiday celebrations grow nearer and the weather grows colder outside, I pray we will keep in mind the many that have nowhere to go as the temperatures drop; the many who are “Jesus in Disguise.” Pray for guidance, research different ways to help, and make a commitment to assisting the fight on homelessness in whatever way you can this season.

Today’s Action: Pray, talk to God and decide the most effective way you can combat the homeless epidemic in America, be it donations to organizations, or volunteering your time. If everyone did something, people could eat, and have somewhere to sleep, tonight.

Today’s Sharing: Share your own ideas for different ways to combat homelessness and reach out to the people it effects. Share your stories on our Facebook page at facebook.com/holyhereticzine
