Fellowship of Heretics Daily Devotional: December 27, 2016 — There Was No Room for Them In The Inn

Today’s Devotion compiled by Mercy Junction pastor, Rev. Brian Merritt

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

One of the most radical notions of the birth of this vulnerable child is the idea that governments will be on his shoulders and that he will be a counselor that advocates for peace. Peace and love are dangerous to the status quo, they threaten to dissolve people’s allegiances to power because of fear, intimidation or nationalistic pride. The state and the religious establishment were both threatened deeply by a prince of peace. This is why we must continue following that path today, the salvation of the world depends on it.

Today’s Action: Read Luke 1:46-55. How do you think Mary’s words influenced Jesus?

Sharing: What are the words in Mary’s song that resonate with you the most? We would love to hear your thoughts.
